Obituary for Virginia Maxine Kittrell (Lawhon)

Virginia Maxine Kittrell, 91, born in Eagle Rock, CA, passed away peacefully in her home in Inman on January 23, 2015.

She was the oldest child of Edward Otis and Elsie Fern Feltch Lawhon and the widow of William A. Kittrell, DVM. She is survived by a brother, Robert Neal Lawhon (Janet) of San Luis Obispo, CA; four daughters, Dia Lynn (Alan) of Salinas, Ca; Joyce Finkle (Wes) of Spartanburg, SC; Marti Barbour (Billy) of Basalt, CO; and Robin Lauser (Paul) currently residing in Kaiserslautern, Germany and one step-daughter, Linda Kittrell Vanover (Roger) of Lexington, KY. She leaves behind seven grandchildren and their families. She had eight great grandchildren and one on his way into the world. She was predeceased by two stepchildren and two grandchildren.

While in California, she was employed by the State Department of Agriculture and the City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California. She spent thirty four years in Virginia, where she worked as a Precinct Desk Officer for the Virginia Beach Police Department and as an assistant in her husband‘s veterinary clinic. In 2004 she moved to Inman SC, where she made many friends in the RoseCrest Community, at the Shepherd’s Center, the TOPS club, the YMCA, and through her active involvement with various non-profit organizations. She remained an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg until her death.

She brought beauty and light to everything she did and made everyone else's day just a little bit better through her positive approach to life. She will always be remembered as the exemplary daughter, devoted wife, wonderful mother, a loving grandmother, and a true friend. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 28 at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Spartanburg at 2 pm. Visitation will be at 1 pm.
