Obituary for Pearl Hsiu Wei Dik

Mrs. Pearl Hsiu-Wei Dik, 62, of Simpsonville, fell asleep and woke in glory on the morning of Tuesday, February 24, 2015.

Pearl was born in Taiwan on October 18, 1952 to Wan I and Hsueh Oh Chen. In her mid-teens, she moved around between Suriname, Taiwan, Michigan, and Guyana before coming to stay in Grand Rapids, MI in June 1970.

She attended Grand Rapids Junior College where she met Roger Carl Dik in the fall of 1971. They later attended Western Michigan University. They were married August 4, 1973.

Pearl and Roger moved to Troy, OH where they stayed for 23 years and raised their sons, Brian and Jeff. She followed the kids into Troy Elementary School, where she worked as a teacher's aide in the Supplemental Reading Program and later headed up the school's computer lab.

On August 22, 1982, Pearl accepted Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior and was baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

After the sons graduated from high school, Pearl and Roger moved to Cornelius, North Carolina and later to Los Angeles, CA, and finally to Simpsonville, SC.

She became a grandmother in 2004 and now has five grandchildren, whom she loves so much.
These last five years Pearl and Roger have been in living in South Carolina. They have been so full of life for Pearl as she loved interacting with the families of her two sons. Pearl came to be affectionately known as Ama after the grandchildren had been born. Her love of life, optimism, and playful nature filled those around her with joy.

Pearl’s love, laughter, and light was such a blessing to all who knew her.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 am at Palmetto Mortuary, with the visitation preceding the service at 10:00 am.
