Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lila Blackwell can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Lila Evelyn Blackwell

Evelyn Case Blackwell, 89, has “floated across the threshold of God’s Great Golden Door” (from poem DID I? written by Evelyn 6/18/97) entering Heaven on June 27, 2015. She was the widow of Frank Blackwell and the daughter of the late Burgan and Roxie Case. She was born in the Judson community of Greenville and lived most of her life in Simpsonville, retiring from Woodside Mill. While healthy Evelyn enjoyed traveling extensively not only in North America but also to Europe and Asia. She spent many hours at her dear churches Simpsonville Methodist and Immanuel Lutheran. She wrote beautiful poems that are treasured by all who read them.

She was the beloved mother of sons Robert (Gail), Lewis (Beth) and Bill (Jan) Blackwell and daughters June (Jack) Miley and Laurel (Dexter) Brewer as well as 12 grand and 5 step grandchildren, 17 great grand and 5 step great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She also leaves behind loving nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lewis and Jim Case and sister Edna Sellers and dear in-laws.

A service celebrating her life will be Tuesday June 30 at 3 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church led by Pastor Jeffrey VanOsdol. The family will receive friends at 1:30 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2820 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
The family would like to thank her many loving caregivers at home and at Hawthorne Inn, NHC Mauldin, and Caris Healthcare.
