Obituary for Donna Lunette Van Kampen (Foertsch)

Donna Lunette Foertsch Van Kampen, age 81, died on February 3, 2017. She was born on March 1st, 1935 in Racine County, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Sherman R. and June L. (nee Hynek) Foertsch. She lived in Racine, WI until 1985 when she moved to Hendersonville, NC.

Donna was a homemaker and devoted mother of six children. While raising her family she was active as a leader in Brownies, Cub Scouts, 4H and Lutheran Church groups. She had a lifelong interest in nature and loved figure skating, swimming and hiking. While living in North Carolina she participated in mountain hiking groups, the Sierra Club, and gardening. She was generous in sharing her knowledge of gardening and sharing plants with friends and neighbors. She was a lover of music, storytelling and scriptural worship. She retired several years ago from working in corporate marketing and consulting, and later retired from marketing real estate locally in North Carolina.

She is survived by her son Richard Larsen of Luxembourg, daughter Janice Larsen Peterson and husband Roy of Franksville WI, daughter Joanne Larsen Unger and husband Mark of Huntsville AL, daughter Wendy Van Kampen Lynam of Greenville, SC, daughter Ann Van Kampen of Racine, WI. Grandchildren CPT Kyle Unger, Joshua Larsen, Ricky Zicarelli, Lindsey Larsen Weber and husband Roy, Christian Larsen, Alexandra Larsen, Kathryn Lynam and husband Clark Phelps, Mary Lynam and Erin Lynam. Great-grandchildren Kensington Weber, Marlee Weber and Bretton Larsen-Daubenfeld. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann (Dr. James) Hanson of Brookfield, WI, brother S. James ‘Sherm’ Foertsch (Kathy) and sister-inlaw Charlene Foertsch, and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her son David A. Larsen, her brother Curtis A. Foertsch and nephew Peter Hanson.

A special thank you to two very compassionate women in her life - Sandrine Larsen and Carol Coss as well as the many friends and neighbors who supported her during her illness.

There will be a visitation at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792 from 3-5pm today, Tuesday, February 7th. Funeral and burial will take place in her hometown of Racine, WI.

While flowers are always appreciated, memorials can be made in her name to The Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC or The Hope Women’s Cancer Center in Asheville, NC.
