Obituary for J. Frank Black

J. Frank Black
J. FRANK BLACK, 87, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 at The Gardens at Eastside.

Husband of the late Mary M. Black, Frank was born in Taylors, SC to the late Ben and Ethel Black.

A devout Christian, and dedicated member of Northgate Baptist Church, Frank felt the only life that is worth living is a life given totally to God, and to the service of others.

Frank was a fixture in downtown Greenville for 37 years offering personal service to his customers at Frank Black’s Exxon. But more importantly he offered friendship, dependability, and kindness. Frank had a larger than life attitude, a great sense of humor, and was known for his many stories. He was quite the character. God truly did break the mold after Frank. The world was just not big enough for more than one of him!

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Black Lee and husband, George of Greenville. Nephew, Buck Baker and wife, Sheilah of Greenville; Nieces Sherry Easley (Bill) of Rock Hill and Carole Stack (Everett) of Columbia; and his dearest friend, Gwen Rice.

His memorial service will be held Friday, March 17 at 4:00 pm at Northgate Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service at 3:00 pm.

The family is grateful to the staff at The Gardens as well as Bethany and Shauna of Agape Hospice for their exceptional, loving care, and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northgate Baptist Church, 633 Summit Drive, Greenville, SC or The Alzheimer’s Association, 301 University Ridge, #5000, Greenville SC.
