Obituary for Donald Leroy Widerman

Donald Leroy Widerman, 72, of Lyman, South Carolina, beloved husband and father, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017, peacefully at home, after a long battle with cancer. His family and two favorite dogs were at his side. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 28, 1945, he was loved and admired by his family, friends and former coworkers.

Donald is survived by his wife of 33 years, A. Susan Widerman. He is also survived by his sons and their spouses, Brian Anthony Widerman (Laurie) of Forest Hill, Maryland and Christopher Alan Widerman (Ashley) of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Justin Anthony, Jenna Evelyn and Lauren Addison Widerman; his sister, Peggy Riston of Baltimore, Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald is preceded in his death by his parents, Bernard Oliver, and Mildred Pauline (Houser) Widerman, his brother Ronald and sister, Laraine.

Donald served in the US Navy during Vietnam era as an airman on the aircraft carrier, USS America. He enjoyed motor sports, boating, traveling, observing wildlife, designing and building projects and working in his shop and yard. Recent family trips at the beach are among his fondest memories.

There will be a private family graveside service and celebration of his life in Baltimore, Maryland on December 9, 2017.
