One of a Kind

As staff announcers at SEB (Now AFN) in Vicenza, Italy, I remember the General of the SETAF command and Program Director always coming down on Norm for comments he made on the radio, especially during morning drive. I LOVED IT!! We were kindred spirits in a way. Hated following format. Wanted to run our shows the way we wanted to run them. yes....you could say we were "rogue announcers" in a way...hahaha! Had loads of fun doing television with Norm. He made everything FUN!! I learned so much from him. I was young and impressionable but I earned my right as did he, to be stationed at a network headquarters. We had to be extra special to work there. Norman was definitely that, he was "one of a kind". That's why everyone loved him. Loved the big silver Chrysler he drove while everyone else was driving the small Italian cars. You knew it was Norm coming down the road. Sharing a photograph of Norm taken at SEB in Vicenza, doing the Norm Hill salute!! Goodbye my fellow "Pilot of the Airwaves"...you will be missed.
