Obituary for Margaret Verdello (Dawson)

Margaret (Peg) Dawson Verdello, 98, of Spartanburg, originally Mt. Vernon, New York, gave up her burdens of this life for the joys of the next life on January 1, 2018.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, George J. Verdello and her parents, John D. and Janet Dawson.

She is survived by three loving daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Finley (Ross) of Albemarle, North Carolina, Linda Schinck of Taylors, South Carolina, and Georjean Verdello of the home; her grandchildren, George Finley, Lauren Kuchenbrod (Mark), Andrea MacMeccan (Robert), and Joseph Schinck (Lou); and her great grandchildren, Andrew MacMeccan, Avery MacMeccan, Tessa Kuchenbrod.

Peg lived her life of service to family, friends, strangers, and anyone else she could reach. She enjoyed her service with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg; however, the majority of her ministry was through her beloved church of which she was a member, St. James United Methodist Church Spartanburg. She provided handmade blankets to local school children in need through the prayer shawl ministry. She worked with the church to help provide housing and meals to families in need through SPIN (Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network). She loved her card ministry in which she would send works of encouragement to shut-ins and others in need.

Peg loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Each of her grandchildren even had their own tree in her backyard named after them. The family loved their times at the beach both back home with her closest friends in Sag Harbor and at her time shares in Sag Harbor of the South.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Methodist Church Spartanburg and Mobile Meals of Spartanburg.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
