Our sweet Dad can see clearly and is in the arms of our Heavenly Father. John Quinn Marshall, 99, passed away in his home on January 12, 2018.

John married Catherine Welfley Patterson Oct. 1, 1949 and they raised their 3 children in Greenville, SC. He is survived by his children John Marshall and wife Linda, Peyton Marshall and Martha Marshall Furman and husband John. Also his grandchildren and their spouses Jason Marshall (Mandy), Jolie Marshall Loeb (Kevin), Jennifer Furman Gradwell,Riva Furman Cain (Brooks),Ashley Marshall,Caitlin Marshall,Chelsea Marshall,Brittany Marshall. “Papa John" is also survived by his 7 great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his wife Catherine Patterson Marshall (Sep. 15, 1996) and his siblings Thomas Edward Marshall III, Margaret Heimbach and Isabelle Oleson.

Son of Thomas Edward Marshall Jr. and Margaret Quinn Marshall, he was born in Appomattox County VA, and grew up in Crozet,VA on an apple orchard. He attended Miller School of Albemarle, VA and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1941. After attending the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD he joined the Navy in 1941 until the end of WWII in December of 1945. He served on escort duty as a Naval Engineering Officer in the Atlantic on the U.S.S. MacLeish DD220 and joined the Pacific Theatre on the U.S.S. Hughes DD410 in the North Pacific Fleet. His fleet was in Japan for the surrender ceremony. After 34 years he retired as President of Mechanical Equipment Co. in 1982.

He served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Deacon and mission committee at Westminster Presbyterian Church, member of the Sertoma Club, and supported Thornwell Childrens Home and Miller School.

His character demonstrated values in his Christian faith, family and education.

The family cannot express the depth of appreciation to all of the incredible faithful friends, caregivers, Comfort Keepers and Caris Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Thornwell Childrens Home.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 2pm at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E. Washington St, Greenville, SC with visitation following at at the church.
