Alan Hagopian passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020. He was born February 20, 1937 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He attended the Edinburgh Academy and earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh. He did research in radiation chemistry at FSU, U of F and Leeds University and was part of the Radiation Chemistry Data Center located at Notre Dame University. Most of his career was spent as Manager of Science and Information Services for Bayer AG (formerly Miles Laboratories) in Elkhart, IN.
While working at U of F, Alan met Marilyn Fleming. They were married September 7, 1968, in the Church of the Holy Cross, Davidson's Mains, Edinburgh, Scotland. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Mark E. Hagopian (Suzie) of NYC; Andrew K. Hagopian (Marcie) of Atlanta, GA; his sister, Mary Paget, Edinburgh, Scotland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen L. Hagopian; his parents; and and a sister.
Alan enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, traveling and volunteering with CoCoRaHS. And, he loved running, especially training for and competing in local races with Karen.
Due to COVID-19, no visitation or service will be held. When it is safe to travel, his remains will be scattered in the Remembrance Garden at the Church of the Holy Cross.
