Obituary for Angel Mesrobian Odabashian (Mesrobian)
On December 2, 2019 Angel Odabashian, 97 went home to her Lord. She was born on January 29, 1922 to Serope and Aghravne Mesrobian in N.Y.C..
There she graduated from N.Y. School of Design and after moving to Washington, D.C., graduated from the Abbott School of Art. During WW II she worked for the War Department. It was then that she reunited with a childhood acquaintance and subsequently married him. Aram (Al)) was serving in the Army Air Corps.
After the war Al & Angel were stationed overseas with the airlines, where her sons, Robert and Richard were born. They ultimately moved back to the States, settling in New Jersey where Angel was a dedicated housewife who served as President of both the local PTA and the Board of Education. She was also an accomplished seamstress who had a penchant for gardening and a talent for painting. In early 1972, she lost Al to cancer.
Relocating to Memphis, Tennessee, she became acquainted with the Armenian community there and formed the Memphis Armenian Community Organization. She was also instrumental in the city of Memphis formally recognizing Armenian Martyrs Day. Finally, moving to Greenville and later Greer, SC, she continued her artwork, played bridge extensively, enjoyed the friendship of many and was blessed with a deeper involvement with her church.
Angel passed away after complications from a fall, leaving behind son & wife, Robert and Marie Odabashian, grandson and wife, Mitchell and Amy Strange, great granddaughter, Taylor Madison Strange, all of Greer, SC; a son, Richard Odabashian of Philadelphia PA, and granddaughter, Iren Odabashian of Eugene, Oregon.
A memorial service will be held for Angel Odabashian on January 18, at 3:00 PM at St Peter's Episcopal Church on Hudson Rd, in Greenville.
