Obituary for Barbara Estelle Richey

Barbara Richey, age 85, of Fountain Inn, SC, went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2022 at the Fountain Inn Community Residence. Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late H.W. and Frances Clardy Richey.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Margo Taylor of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Jim Richey (Wanda) of Easley, SC; and many special friends from Thrive Upstate. She was predeceased by brothers: Paul, Jerry and Byrum Richey; and sisters: Sandra Jean Richey, Thrace Burnett, Etta Ruff and Madge McKenzie.

Barbara loved gospel music, bluegrass, dancing, horses, her garden, flea markets and Special Olympics. She was still competing in her early eighties and winning awards in softball pitch. She loved her family and had many friends since she never met a stranger.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and residents of Thrive Upstate for their love and friendship during Barbara’s many years of residency. The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation to Barbara’s care team at Brookdale Hospice for their loving care during her final months.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Rd., Greenville, SC 29607. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior, beginning 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics - South Carolina, 109 Oak Park Drive, Irmo, SC 29063; or to the Tim Tebow Foundation – A Night to Shine, 2220 County Road 210 W, Suite 108, PMB 317, Jacksonville, FL 32259.
