Obituary for Billy Marion Blassingame
Awesome dad, grandpa, and neighbor, Billy M. Blassingame, of Greenville, SC, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He was 79. Billy was born in Pickens, SC to the late Ruben and Jannie Lee Blassingame.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Glenn McCombs; great-grandson, Jeremiah Leviticus Manning; and siblings: Fred D. Blassingame, James W. Blassingame, Lillie M. White, Betty J. Sullivan, and Arnell Blassingame.
He is survived by his daughters: Virginia (Tom) Brown, Dena McCombs, Carol McCombs, Lynn (Victor) Dania, and Lisa (Lucius) Manning; son, Richard (Patricia) McCombs; grandchildren: Rosetta Watley, James Watley, Michael Watley, Shaun Watley, Temika Powers, Trevis Thurmond, Lucius Manning III, Lawrence Manning, Eternity McCombs, Kenneth Nedwards, Daveon Hall, Kernesha Thompson, Latrice Chapman, Editoria Thompson, Geanean Thompson, and Sasha Thompson; and a host of great-grandchildren and Mariah Young of the home; sister, Virginia Sue Blassingame ; in-laws: Lucille Gambrell, and Charles Glenn; nieces: Dorothy Green, Margaret Blassingame, Mary Simpkins, Mildred Thompson, and Debra (Rollinson) Blassingame; nephews, Troy Blassingame and Calvin Blassingame; and friends: Mrs. Scottie Lou Williams, Mr. George, Mr. David Shaw, Mr. Nick, Mr. James Kirsey, and Mr. Ray Shaw.
Billy had a gentle soul and a kind heart. His smile was contagious and his generosity showed no ends. He enjoyed porch-sitting, watching Westerns, playing the guitar and singing, and listening to the Blues. He liked road trips to the lake and eating at Cracker Barrel. Billy's favorite television shows were Family Feud, Andy Griffith, and Walker Texas Ranger. He sang in a Gospel Group and loved fixing lawn mowers. He always answered the phone by saying, "Billy's here;" and always parted ways with, "Come back and see me."
Visitation will be held 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Rd., Greenville, SC 29607.
A graveside funeral will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Rd., Piedmont, SC 29673.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the his family at the home.
