Obituary for Brigitte Hildegard Heiser
Brigitte Heiser, 80, wife of Joel Heiser, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
A resident of Greer, Oma, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and leader of the Heiser family who loved spending time with her family. Oma volunteered for the Meals on Wheels of Greer and was a long time supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Oma was a president of the Ladies' Auxiliary and player agent for West Springfield Little League in Virginia. She assisted in teaching Faith Formation classes and she was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Oma was an East German school lieutenant from 1949 - 1957. She often spoke about walking guard in the middle of the night. After marrying her husband, Joel, in Mainz, Germany in 1963. Oma traveled with him to his many Army assignments: Baumholder and Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Maryland, Hawaii, Charlottesville, VA, Charleston SC, and Washington DC. Oma was able to guide all of the family through her hometown, Oschatz, Germany, after reunification of West and East Germany in 1989.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of fifty-nine years, are sons, Dirk Heiser (Marie) of Greer, Mark Heiser of Greer, Christian Heiser (Lina) of Charlotte, NC, and Kevin Heiser (Trish) of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Rainer Volkel of Zurich, Switzerland; a sister-in-law, Joan Heiser of Jasper, GA; and grandchildren, Lindsey Heiser Morabito (Cameron) of Burke, VA, Reagan Heiser of Charleston, Camden Heiser of Charlotte, NC, Chase Heiser of Charlotte, NC, Drew Heiser of Charlotte, NC, Alex Heiser of Charlotte, NC, Addison Heiser of Greer, and Luke Heiser of Greer.
The family will host a private memorial service at a later date. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery.
