Obituary for Delmas Morgan Brown

Delmas Morgan Brown passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2021, with his wife at his side. Delmas was born in Griffin, GA where he graduated from Griffin High School. He continued to live in Griffin with his wife of 56 years, Rebecca “Becky” Huckaby Brown, and daughter, Benjie Brown Mills. He went to college later in life and earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. He always wanted to live in the mountains so they moved to Pisgah Forest, NC where he enjoyed all nature has to offer. They then moved to Greer, SC to be close to family.

At home, he expressed his artistic talent using wood as his favorite medium. He was an avid wood carver and turner, often making beautiful figures, bowls, and specialized tools for his wife’s textile art. He loved working outdoors and building hardscapes in the yard. He also enjoyed old cars, owning a Model A for a number of years. Professionally, Delmas designed and drafted many of the architectural structures in the Atlanta area during his career.

After retirement, Delmas and Becky traveled the world, visiting 25 countries and cruising some of the world’s most famous waterways. His favorite adventures were to Alaska but he really enjoyed them all.

He spent his life spoiling his wife and daughter. His family will remember him for his devotion and quiet presence.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Huckaby Brown of Greer, SC; his daughter, Benjie Brown Mills and her husband, Terrell William Mills; and his granddaughters, Morgan Marie Mills and Grace Elizabeth Mills - all of Greenville, SC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnelle Morgan Brown from Griffin, GA; his father Jesse E. Brown of San Francisco, CA; and his brother Gerald “Jerry” Brown of Jacksonville, FL.

No memorial service will be held because Delmas didn’t want one. Instead, the family encourages all who wish to celebrate his life to have a quiet time in remembrance or to have a moment of celebration in nature. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Prisma Health Cancer Institute, who lovingly cared for him during his final months. These can be made at www.ghsgiving.org/cancerservices.
