Obituary for Elizabeth Katherine Cox

Elizabeth "Liz" Katherine Cox, 80, of Simpsonville, SC, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 14, 2022. She was born in West Burlington, Iowa to the late Elizabeth K. and Hans J. Seitz.

Liz loved her church, Mauldin United Methodist, and served as a Stephen Minister as well as on various church committees. Giving back and serving others — particularly caring for children — was a principle she found through faith and guided the journey of her life. This belief led her to serve as a Guardian ad Litem for many years and more recently a school mentor. In these pursuits, which she loved, Liz strove to improve her larger community as well.

Liz was a master gardener who took great pride in bringing life to outdoor spaces through cultivating plants of all kinds. Countless hours were spent caring for the grounds of her church meditation garden, community, and especially her home.

Her greatest joy though, was spending time with her family and pouring herself into her grandchildren: Will, Matt and Nick.

Liz is survived by her daughters, Robin Marie Alexander (William IV) and Angela Beth Karpinski (Dennis J.); grandchildren: William J. Alexander V, Matthew J. Alexander, and Nicholas H. Karpinski; sister, Marylen Miller of Portland, OR; and brother, Herman Seitz (Donna) of Battleground, WA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Henry Cox, Jr.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Mauldin United Methodist Church,100 E. Butler Rd., Mauldin, SC 29662. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior, beginning 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's name may be made to A Home for Me, 3 Hedge St., Simpsonville, SC 29681, www.ahomeforme.sc.
