Obituary for Elizabeth Pearl Vought (Monk)

Elizabeth (Betty) P. Vought passed away peacefully in her home in the early hours of Monday July 13, 2020. Betty was born on April 15, 1943 in St. Catherine’s Ontario, Canada. When she was 9 yrs old, she was adopted by her Uncle and Aunt, Gerald and Marie Monk and moved to Buffalo, NY where she grew up.
Betty raised her two boys in Olean, NY where she worked as a bookkeeper for an auto dealership and bus line. After her boys were grown, Betty moved back to the Buffalo area and worked 12 years in customer service with the Internal Revenue Service. Betty was active in charitable work, focusing on the homeless and battered women.

After she retired, she moved down to Greenville, SC to live with her eldest son. She was an active member of Mountain Bridge Bible Fellowship where she organized activities for the ladies and loved on all the new borns. Betty enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading.

Those of us who were privileged to know Betty, remember her as a funny, loving and welcoming woman who was always there with a helping hand and a listening ear. What we remember most about Betty was that she was a consistent prayer warrior for all of us. She loved and believed God and prayed for all she came in contact with, wishing them to experience God’s amazing love and care. She will be deeply missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: Gerald and Marie Monk. She is survived by two brothers: Eric Monk and his wife Dody, Kevin Monk and his wife Patricia; four nieces: Janine Carson and her husband Gary, Jackie Monk,Melissa Stanley and her husband Jordan, Andrea Monk: two sons: Eric Wood, Troy Wood: two granddaughters: Jeni Wood Enjaian, Laura Wood and her husband Aaron, four grandsons: Ricky George and his wife Candace, Ian Wood, Jacob Perry, Lucas Wood; one great granddaughter:Nevaeh George, and her “heart family,” the Tardugno Clan.

Often in the Northeast, when a person passes on during the Winter, they have to postpone the funeral until Spring when the ground is more conducive to internment. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic situation here in South Carolina, Betty’s family has decided to postpone any memorial for her until the “ground” is more conducive to the large gathering of people who want to honor and remember her. The family appreciates your understanding in this decision and will let everyone know when they reschedule the memorial. In the meantime, please feel free to leave your condolences and memories of Betty, here on this website, on her Facebook page or the Facebook page of either Troy Wood or Eric Wood. Also, if you were considering donating flowers, please consider donating to Miracle Hill Ministries or Loaves and Fishes of Greenville.
