Gene K. Gardo, 92, of Greenville, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 7th, 2020. He was the son of the late Edward and Eugenia Gardo.

He is survived by his wife June Gardo; sons, Russell (Melinda), Mark (Hallie), Tony (Gina); daughter, LuAnn Holcombe (Byron); grandchildren, Isabelle Gardo, Danielle Gardo, and Michael Gardo.

He was preceded in death by grandchild Caitlin Smart.

Gene was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, June of 68 years. He was a member of Tremont Church of God on New Easley Highway. He was a supervisor for Miliken for 48 years. Gene was an avid coin, stamp, and postcard collector and enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and watch his Clemson Tigers play football. He enjoyed keeping the family tree up to date and organized decades of family photo albums. Gene will be remembered for being easy going, his positive demeanor, always smiling, and his kindness.

Uncle Gene was my father’s youngest brother. My father Francis died when I was eight years old. My sister Patricia and I live in San Diego, CA county. I met Uncle Gene at a Gardo family union in 1986. I had never been to Greenville, South Carolina, and had a great welcoming. It was so great to see all my relatives in South Carolina.
Uncle Gene came to visit us in California and it was great to see him again.
My deepest sympathies to Aunt June and my
cousins and their family.

Giuseppina Gardo

Dear Gene, you came into our lives through a letter, many years ago. In that letter we found a cousin that we didn’t know we had, we found a friend, we found a joyful, humorous, loving, wonderful person! We are deeply saddened by the news of your loss. You and your beautiful family are in our hearts and in our minds.
Dear June, dear Mark, dear Gardo’s family, we are close to you at this difficult time. Gene was a special man and he will keep living in the hearts of all of us.
With love and remembrance,
Alessandra, Francesca, Giuseppina and Lodovico, Your Italian family

Gene was a blessing and an inspiration to me as a teen playing in the band at Tremont Church of God together. Gene and June were leaders and cared for the teens as they showed the love of Christ. Gene was always "cool, calm and collected" terms used to describe easy going stable personality. He has graduated to glory and will play music in the heavenly band.
