Obituary for Harold Dean Stephens

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Harold Dean "Bud" Stephens, of Greenville, passed away June 6, 2020.

Harold was born on January 2, 1938 in Westminster, SC, the son of Thomas Ennis and Everlee Freeman Stephens. Surviving are his wife, Anne Clayton Stephens; children, Lauren Susanne Stephens Tomlinson and husband Clark, and Dean Scott Stephens and wife Loretta; grandchildren: Meredith Tomlinson, Clay Stephens, and Brad Stephens; sisters, Adele Boggs of Seneca, and Betty Sue Stephens of Westminster.

He was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Bradley Stephens in 1996; sister, Edith Toney in 1994; and his much loved mother-in-law, Sue Abbott Clayton Barrett in 2015.

Harold was a loving and giving man who brought much joy, laughter, and love to his family. His joyful spirit, patience, kindness, quick wit, logic, and intelligence will be missed by all who knew him.

An alumni of Westminster High School, and Clemson University, Harold was a big Clemson Tiger fan.

In the Army Reserves, he was a member of the 391st Engineering Battalion who served his country during the 1962 Berlin Crisis.

Upon returning to civilian life, Harold worked for Greenville Steel Corporation. In 1998, he joined SC Steel Corporation (now CMC) as a draftsman checker until his retirement in 2010.

A private service will be held.
