Obituary for Harriett McCutcheon O'Dell
Harriett McCutcheon O’Dell, 78, of Mauldin, SC passed away in her home on May 10, 2023. Born February 26, 1945 in Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Preston and Nellie McCutcheon of Union, SC.
Harriett is survived by her two daughters, DeAnna Blackburn and husband Ed of Greenville, SC, and Ronda Edmunds and husband David of Salt Lake City, UT; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth, Bennett, and Montis Blackburn, and Hope, Anna, Sarah, John, Naomi, Moses, and Levi Edmunds; and brother, P.J. McCutcheon of Union, SC.
Harriett loved Jesus and others well. She had a servant heart and the footprint of faith can be seen throughout her life. Her faith was evidenced through her many years of leading Sunday School, her excitement for serving at Vacation Bible School, and her commitment to volunteering on the prayer team. Even when she was no longer able to officially volunteer, she was always fervently praying for those she loved. She had a generous nature and was always willing to share whatever she had. Her love for her family was abundant, and “Mom” and “Grandmom” (or “G-mom” as she was affectionately called) were her favorite titles. Her grandkids remember the “grandmom bag” she carried, full of goodies. She had a fun and silly side that brought joy and laughter, especially to her grandchildren. She could equally be counted on for wise counsel gained from years of experience and perseverance in the face of trials and tribulations.
She leaves a lasting legacy of a life well-lived.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church, 371 Sandy Springs Road, Pelzer, SC 29669. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior, beginning 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont, SC.
