James Richard "JJ" Jones, age 56, of Taylors, SC passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at his home. JJ loved the outdoors, fishing, fixing anything mechanical and helping his neighbors any way he could. He was also a very enthuiastic fan of the Tennessee Volunteers football team. He was born in North Carolina but spent most of his childhood in Maryville, Tennessee. Preceded in death by: Mother, Peggy Ann Crisp Jones; Father, James Charles "JC" Jones; and his Brother, Timmy Jones. He is survived by: Wife, Penny Thomas Jones; Brothers: Terry and Jerry Jones both of Maryville, TN; Children: Meredith Wrenn and her husband, Tripp of Charleston, SC; Matthew Thomas and his wife, Amber and grandchildren Ryker Thomas and Ayden Lee of Spartanburg, SC.

Since he couldn't stand to see a man beat on a woman and especially a child, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Julie Valentine Center, 2905 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611 in his memory. This is a center for victims of sexual assault and child abuse.

The family will receive friends at 3pm Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Palmetto Mortuary. A service will follow at 4pm.
