Obituary for James Egbert Meeks III

James “Jim” Egbert Meeks III left us on Thursday, November 5, 2020 to be with his heavenly Father in his new body. For over 30 years, Jim was handicapped from multiple sclerosis although cancer took him at the end.

Jim purposefully lived his life with a positive outlook and faith that helped uplift many people. As a committed disciple of Jesus Christ, he ministered the Gospel to others during hospital stays, at home visits and at church. Jim possessed a dry sense of humor, was a movie buff and a music connoisseur. In his youth, he was athletic playing high school football, surfing and skateboarding. He studied Elementary Education and earned his teaching degree from California State University, Fullerton.

Jim made Gaffney his home for the last 12 years and was a descendant of the Clary and Gilfillan families. Jim was an active member of First Baptist Church Gaffney, SC.

Jim leaves behind his mother, Melinda Becker of Gaffney, his father, James E. Meeks Jr (Ann) of Melbourne, FL, eight siblings – Chuck Becker (Lisa) of Merritt Island, FL, Felecia Phipps (Rod) of Ormond Beach, FL, Don Becker (Mona) of Sharpes, FL, Connie Martin (Russ) of Roswell, GA, Samantha Reddish (Jim) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Brandie Osburn (Bob) of Chesapeake, VA, Scott Meeks, Palm Bay, FL, Robert Meeks (Jolene), Indian Harbour Beach and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be made online to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or First Baptist Church Gaffney, SC. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 @ 2 pm at First Baptist Church Gaffney, 200 N Limestone St, Gaffney, SC 29340.
