Obituary for Jerrill Porter Moon

Jerrill Porter Moon, 71, passed away at home Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from complications due to esophageal adenocarcinoma. Born in Madison, GA on September 27, 1949 to the late Evelyn Martin Moon and James Monroe Moon Jr., the family relocated to Greenville, SC when he was about four years old.

In his younger years, Jerrill played football and baseball. He attended Stephenson Memorial United Methodist Church in Taylors. A graduate of Wade Hampton High School in 1967, Jerrill then attended Clemson University. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for various grading and construction companies across the upstate. He was also a former manager of the Office Lounge in Greenville.

Surviving are a favorite aunt, Mrs. Nancy West and many, many beloved cousins in Madison GA; a brother James "Jimmy" Moon III (Sandy) of Calhoun Falls, SC; three sisters, Jeannette "Jenny" Kresge (Gene) of Hubert, NC, Jane Hairston and Joan Holiday both of Greenville; six nephews; four nieces; and over a dozen great nephews and nieces along with three great-great nieces.

In this time of Covid-19 the family will celebrate Jerrill's life at the outdoor chapel behind the gym at Covenant United Methodist Church, 1310 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, SC 29650 at 2:00pm Sunday, November 8. Please dress casually and wear a mask when you can't socially distance. You may also bring your own stadium cushion or your lawn chair if you prefer. The adjacent youth worship area will be used in the event of inclement weather.
