Obituary for Joan E Spillane
Joan Ellen "Joanie" Spillane, 69, wife of James Joseph Spillane, went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Joanie moved to Swansea, South Carolina at age 34, when she married James. They have resided in Columbia for the past 24 years. Joanie had worked a variety of jobs in her life, including interior decorator, librarian, and nanny, but her favorite role was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and was a member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church.
Joanie is survived by her husband, James Joseph Spillane; sons, Joshua Matthew Espinosa (Lauren) of Savannah, GA, and Joseph Michael Espinosa (Joanna) of Greenville, SC; and five grandsons and three granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Norma Polakoff Fine; and two brothers, Peter and Andrew Polakoff.
Graveside services for Joanie, will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org; or to Grace Church (memo: “Natural Burial”) at www.gracechurchsc.org.
