Obituary for John Austin

John Thomas Austin, Sr. 80 of Hwy 14, Austin Boulevard, Simpsonville died at his home December 30, 2020.

He was proceeded in death by his parents James Waddy and Annis Baldwin Austin and his little brother William Erwin Austin.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Rebecca Vaughn Austin, their four children: John T. Austin, Jr (Lisa) of Arden, NC, Margaret E. Crowe (William) of Fountain Inn, SC, Patti Austin Martin of Greenville, SC, Ann C. Johnson of Simpsonville, SC, and their eight grandchildren : Jessica S. Corley (Jason) of Casey, SC, Joshua T. Martin of Greenville, SC, William T. Crowe, Jr. (Julie) of Gray Court, SC, Sally C. Owens (Troy) of Fountain Inn, SC, Sammy C. Crowe of Fountain Inn, SC, Lauren E. Gamache of Green, Maine, Lacy D. Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Emily E. Austin of Asheville, NC and their five great grandchildren: Moxie Gamache, Major Gamache, Billy Crowe, Asaph Crowe, and Hattie Jo Crowe. Tom is also survived by his older brother James Waddy Austin, Jr (Sheryl) of Lulin, LA.

Tom was educated in lower Greenville County and Clemson University. After 35 years with Roadway Express Tom retired to play with the grandchildren, raise chickens, farm and work on family geneaology. His love of family, friends and strangers was a lesson for all of us who loved him. His sense of humor was a joy to all that met him. His special bond with his cousins, extended family and Teamster brothers knew no bounds. Tom was a life long member of Bethel United Medodist Church and served on numerous boards throughout his life. He played football for Hillcrest High in Simpsonville and was the biggest Clemson Tiger fan around.

The family will have a private service to celebrate his life Monday, January 4, 2021 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Simpsonville. The family will be at the family home in Simpsonville.
