John Carey Lewis died in his home in Taylors, South Carolina and is now with the Lord. As family, we think it appropriate that his death date would be Friday the 13th January, 2023.
Born November 30th, 1965, John was an epic saga, 57 years in the making. A great civic servant, serving at Morningside Baptist for over 20 years. He graduated “Cum Lucky” from Bob Jones University in Computer Science with an abundance of electronical knowledge, a stellar work ethic, and a true servant’s heart. In the eyes of all who knew him, he was top spot, on another level, and would help with whatever was needed ere you finished telling him about the problem. Mission-minded he founded The Mission Station at missionaries.org (now ODBM home) and helped numerous missionaries with prayer cards and presentations.
John is predeceased by his father, Alfred Allison Lewis (2018,) and his best friend, Doug Rogier (2016.) He is survived by his wife, Karen Suzanne Yates Lewis, mother, Judith Ann Radmacher Lewis, and sisters, Heather Lynn Lewis Schaub (John), and Mary Catherine Lewis Paris (Keith). Although not personally blessed with children, Uncle John John was survived by his menagerie of nieces [Melissa Catherine Paris McElhiney (Matthew), Elizabeth Ann Paris Labadorf (James), Caitlynn Ruthann Schaub, and Megan Michelle Schaub], and great niece Nikole Mae Labadorf, who he truly loved.
John was a survivor, who, after being given a flu shot and suffering multiple organ failures and a 4-month incapacitation, relearned how to speak, move, and walk. During this time, he retained his sharp intellect, volunteering to and able to fully troubleshoot his harebrained sister’s phone problems, without the ability to walk, sit up, speak, or do anything but point.
A dedicated and promising student, John broke many records during his academic tenure, including one for no spelling errors on his freshman English papers, and one for the most times to retake a calculus course before passing (5). His passion for God, missions, computers, and life, infected everything he did, making it clearly evident, that even in death, he had a huge heart. He will be sorely missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at Morningside Baptist Church on Saturday, January 28th at 2pm. All are Welcome.
