Obituary for Judith Stephens Kirkland (Stephens)

Sandra Judith Stephens Kirkland, 74, of Inman, South Carolina died on August 8, 2020. Born on January 18, 1946, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Elmore and Mildred Horton Stephens.

She is survived by her husband, Glen W. Kirkland; daughters, Stephanie Cromer Andrews (Todd), Donna Cromer Ilderton (Elmo) and Tammie Cromer Patrick (Sean); grandchildren, Jaime Andrews, Jenna Andrews, Ansley Ilderton Dunn (Josh), Chandler Ilderton, and Jordan Patrick; siblings, Barbara S. Smith (Bobby), Patsy W. Eubanks (Paul), Eldora Floyd, and James E. Stephens Jr. (Reba); many nieces and nephews; her canine friends, Emma and Sunny and two special lifelong friends, Faye Thornton Waters and Brenda Strickland Layton. Judy was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald E. Cromer, and a sister, Betty C. Stephens.

Judy was of the Baptist faith. She was the owner/operator of Sandbox Daycare Center in Roebuck, SC, and was affectionately known as “Miss Judy” by her many nursery children, whom she dearly loved. She also had 20 years of service at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC. Judy had a love of nature and was especially fond of Bluebirds.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. J Bearden, Reggie Scoggins, and Stacey Williams for their excellent care over the many years, as well as Lutheran Hospice during her final days. Palmetto Mortuary, Greenville, SC is responsible for arrangements. At Judy’s request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
