Obituary for Lawrence Mattison

Lawerence Mattison, 89, beloved husband to Donna Mattison, of Travelers Rest, SC passed away on June 6, 2022. Born in Donalds, SC he was the son of the late Lawerence Mattison and Lucile Anderson Mattison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia (Peggy) Johnson and Jeannette Johnson. He is survived by children/stepchildren Charles Mattison, Shirley Simmons and Christiana Grace. Siblings Bernice Johnson, and brother Scipio Horace Wardlaw, Jr., brother-in-law Herman R. Thornton, sister-in-law Brenda Davis, special cousin William Wood; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, family and friends.


He enjoyed baseball and traveling. He believed in community service through numerous Masonic organizations, such as being a member of Aza Shrine Temple #140 P.H.A. Clown team member; 33 degree Grand Inspector's General of Piedmont Consistory #169; Past Eminent Commander of Greenville Signet Commandery No. 11 Knights Templar; Past High Priest of Greenville Signet No. 55 of Holy Royal Arch Masonry; Past Master for Mountain Grove Lodge #307 and Past Worthy Patron of Mountain Grove Chapter #215 Order of Eastern Stars.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 911 St. Mark Road Taylors, SC 29687. Burial to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park 7 Duncan Road Travelers Rest, SC 29690.
