Obituary for Margie Sparkman

Margaret (Margie) Moore Sparkman Tribute
The Heavenly Choir gained an accomplished soloist when Margie Sparkman went home to be with the Lord. Margaret (MARGIE) Moore Sparkman 72 of McCormick, SC passed at home peacefully on August 28, 2022 following a brief illness. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother she delighted in praising her Lord and Savior with her beautiful voice.
Born May 30, 1950 at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood SC, Margie grew up in Augusta, graduated High School from Richmond Academy, and earned a bachelor’s of music degree at Augusta State University. Trained formally in opera, she was a soloist and toured the United States and Europe with the University choirs before continuing her education earning a Master of Music Ministry Degree from Southeastern Theological Seminary.
Margie was a choral music teacher in Georgia primary, middle and high schools for 23 years. She touched the lives of many as she encouraged her beloved students to appreciate music and develop their latent musical talents. Local performances, State competitions, and tours throughout the US were some of her most cherished memories. She will be remembered for her genuine love for her students and the guidance and encouragement she provided to them during some of their most trying times.
Margie was a minister of music and soloist at various churches in South Carolina and Georgia for over 50 years where she stressed the importance of the message in praise music in addition to its beauty as a part of the worship service. She is a member of McCormick First Baptist Church choir and the North Carolina Baptist Singers and Orchestra.
She recently moved with her husband to Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick SC, where she loves playing cards, visiting with her children and grand-children and frequent travel.
Margie was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Daniel Moore and mother, Wilma P Moore
Margie is survived by her husband of 7 years Thad (Sparkie) Sparkman, daughter Laura Jones, son in law David Jones, grandchildren, Leighton, and Jace Jones, of Appling, GA; son, Jonathan Story and daughter in law Sonja Story of Wheeling, West Virginia; brother, Ed Moore and sister-in-law Lynn Moore of Griffin, Georgia.
Memorial service to be held at McCormick First Baptist Church at 2pm Thursday 9/1/22 with visitation beginning at 1pm. Memorials may be made in her honor to McCormick First Baptist Church, Choir Fund, Post Office Box 416, 108 S Oak Street, McCormick, SC 29835.
