Obituary for Martha Lamb Hancock

Martha Lamb Hancock, 100, passed from this life and into the arms of our Lord on Sunday August 2, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Palatka, FL and lived there for 92 years before moving to Mauldin, SC to spend the last years of her life in the care of her daughter, Donna. Martha grew up during the Great Depression and graduated from Putnam High School in 1938. She had a long career as a secretary, first at her father's law office, then for O.M. Webb's department store, Senator Bill Pearce and attorney Kate Walton. She was active in her community, starting as a tireless volunteer on America's home front during World War II, then later as a member of the Palatka Garden Club, and as a volunteer at a Putnam Memorial Hospital. More than anything, she was a selfless and devoted mother and caregiver her entire life. Martha most enjoyed reading, playing bridge and spending time with family-especially at Crescent Beach. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hancock Jr.; her parents, Joseph P. and Mary T. Lamb; her sister Virginia Underhill of Barberville, FL; and her brothers, Joseph P. Lamb Jr. of Palatka, FL and Lawrence S. Lamb of Augusta, GA. She is survived by her four children: Donna Lynn Campisi (Tom) of Mauldin SC, John Kitt Hancock (Julie) of Deland FL, Jeanne Marie Seifried (Gary) of Knoxville TN and Charles Wayne Hancock (Brenda) of Gainesnville GA, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to one of Martha's favorite charities: www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
