Obituary for Martha Stark Moran

Martha Starck Moran of Taylors passed away on May 26 at Patewood Healthcare Center in Greenville, after a period of declining health. Martha was born in 1927 in New York City, and grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut. She earned a nursing degree from Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and had a career as a nurse in New York and New Jersey. Martha married James Moran after meeting him on a blind date and they had many happy years together. Martha and James moved to the Greenville area in 1973, and Martha worked for many years at a substance abuse treatment center nearby. Martha was a wonderfully strong and independent woman who loved her dogs, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and observing nature. She was a longtime and enthusiastic participant in OLLI at Furman University.
Martha will be greatly missed by her children, Susan Moran of Ann Arbor MI, Pete Moran of Como MS, and Chris Moran of Nashville TN. She was adored by her grandchildren Hannah, Zelda, Cullen, Connor, Rosie, and Declan, who loved hearing stories of her early life and were inspired by her independent spirit. A private memorial gathering is planned for a later date.
