Patricia Ann (Walther) Hoopes was born to Louis and Gladys Walther on St. Patrick's Day 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio. As a child, Pat enjoyed athletics, camping, Girl Scouts, (achieving the rank of 1st class scout), animals, and was fascinated with aircraft so much so she joined the Civil Air Patrol. Pat attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio and graduated in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Health/Physical Education. She participated and lettered in women's soccer and field hockey. During the summers between her College years, she served as a camp counselor in Pennsylvania, Vermont and Maine (her favorite) where she taught canoeing, camping and hiking. After college graduation, her first job was as a Health, Phys Ed and 7th grade English teacher. She taught for 2 years then decided to pursue a certificate in physical therapy. She attended the Frank E. Bunts Institution of Physical Therapy at the Cleveland Clinic. It was here that she met her future husband David T. Hoopes. Upon her graduation/certification, she began working at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where she met many life-long friends and developed a lasting passion for physical therapy. Along the way, she had 3 children, Lynda, Jeffrey and Barbara.
Those who have known Pat, know how much she loved life, her dear friends, her Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Buckeyes. She served for several years as a volunteer on the Reminderville Fire Department and as a dog walker for the Humane Society of Akron. Her sense of adventure continued into her 80's when she went on an Alaskan cruise and Land adventure with family and friends.
Pat peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord, on Thursday January 14, 2021. The family would like to thank all of Pat's dear friends for taking such good care of her and adopting her for many holidays.
A zoom celebration of life will be at a later date. She has been cremated and will be laid to rest with her parents in a cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio sometime this summer.
