Obituary for Paul Joseph Mullock

Paul Joseph “Whitey” Mullock, passed away suddenly on July 19th, at his home in Piedmont, South Carolina. He recently celebrated his 69th birthday.
Paul was the son of the late Norman and Margaret (Clark) Mullock. As a young boy he was known as “Whitey” because of the shock of white hair; the nickname and signature hair would stay with him all his life. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Hartsville, Bucks County, with his six brothers and two sisters. He traveled throughout the country and lived in many places, including Eugene, Oregon, and Cape May, New Jersey. He recently relocated to South Carolina.
Paul was a skilled carpenter and contractor, but his greatest gift was an innate ability to understand how things worked. There was no machine or tool he could not explain, fix or use, and he was always generous with his knowledge and skills. No request for assistance, regardless of the time or circumstances, would ever be ignored. He was always there to lend a helping hand, ready with a big smile and a cheery “what’s going on?” He had a broad knowledge of many subjects and could gladly discuss a wide range of topics, including history, politics, or the alignment of the planets. It was not unheard of to get an early morning call to alert you about a celestial happening! An avid reader and a man of curiosity, he knew a lot about many subjects and could pepper any conversation with hard facts. He was Scout Master for Cub Scout Pack 85 and Boy Scout Troop 84 during his time in Cape May, a perfect outlet for his love of the outdoors and skill with “making it work” and sharing those skills with many young people. He will be missed.
Paul is survived by his seven children and their families: Jonathan (married to Charlotte), Paul Nathan (married to Shannon), Lily (partner to Andrew), Will Hayes, Amber (partner to Johnathon Clark), children Julius and Ophelia), Celeste Thompson (daughter Sunny Josephine), and Roland. Paul was predeceased by his brother Norman (married to Tasia), and is also survived by his sisters Marilyn (Joseph Murphy), Jennifer (the late Walter Iwasevic), and brothers Michael (Andi), Robert (Linda), Stephen (Dawn), David (Linda), and Daniel (Patricia). Uncle Whitey will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, who often benefitted from his knowledge and cheerful sense of humor: Norman and Maria Mullock and their children, Mitchell, Mathew and Ryan; Megan and David Rogers and their children, Ethan, Owen, and Ella; Adrienne Mullock and her daughter, Zuma; Meridith and Fred Mason and their children, Fred and Annabelle; Cynthia Mullock; Zachary and Justine Mullock and their children, Bobby, Tallulah and James; Dillon Mullock; Sean and Ellie Mullock and their son Sawyer; Mariah Mullock and her son, Finn; Mason and Katie Mullock and their son, Silas; Oliver Mullock; Amy Mullock; Nicole and Jim Fleagle and her son, Shawnie; Dan and Rebecca Mullock and their children, Ford and Alexandra; and Leo and Courtney Iwasevic and their children, Stella, Elsie and Sadie; Caitlyn and Michael Willard, Jake O’Brien, and Emily Johnson. Paul kept in touch with numerous life-long friends from across the country, including Dan Rutherford from Cape May, Tommy McGowan from Warrington, and Dennis Rose and Kathryn Shaw from Springfield, Oregon.
