Obituary for Paula Ann Avery (Lucier)

On May 30, 2021, Paula Ann (Lucier) Avery passed away peacefully in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 75 years old.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Dorothy (Wray) Lucier, and a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1964. Paula was married to the late Steven C. Avery with whom she raised two boys, Mark and Matthew, in Andover, Massachusetts. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have seen many corners of the world with her husband and her life-long friends Donna and Peter Hadley. Paula never showed up anywhere empty handed and was known for her delicious brownies, cookies, and potato salad. In 2008 Paula retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Andover. She enjoyed spending her days connecting with her much-loved family and friends; she never missed an opportunity to be together. Paula moved to upstate South Carolina in 2017 to be closer to her son and grandchildren. Although she loved meeting new people and developed a taste for sweet tea she dearly missed the friends and family, ocean-side beaches, and lobster rolls she left behind.
Paula is survived by her sons Mark Avery and daughter-in-law Michelle, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Matthew Avery and his fiancée Clair Murphy, of Oak Park, Illinois; her grandchildren Edward, Caroline, William, Grace, and Jonathan; sister Donna Pynn, the wife of the late George Pynn; brother Stephen Lucier and his wife Diane; brother-in-law Gary Avery and his wife Cathy; sister-in-law Reta Henneberry and her husband Jim; many, many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
Her family would like to thank the caregivers and friends at The Parker and Brookdale Hospice for the kindness and support extended while caring for Paula. Her days were filled with joy, dancing, and companionship and we are thankful for your compassion.
A burial service at West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover, Massachusetts, will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if memorial gifts were made to either The Alzheimer’s Foundation (www.alz.org) or Make-A-Wish Foundation (www.wish.org).
