Obituary for Ronnie Walter Storms
Ronnie Walter Storms passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He was surrounded with love and compassion throughout his battle. He was 74 years old. Ron and his wife Mary Rebecca “Becky” Storms are long-time residents of Mauldin, South Carolina.
Ron was born on September 4, 1947, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Thurman and Dorothy Storms. He was the oldest of four children. His surviving siblings are Brenda and her husband Floyd Hall, Kenneth Storms and Tommie Lynn Storms. He was a US Army Veteran and a Mason and Hejaz Shriner. He was formerly employed with Goodyear and retired as Area Sales Manager for Bridgestone Firestone. Many of Ron’s coworkers and employees speak highly of the lasting impression he made on their lives and display gratitude for the tough life lessons and the straightforward approach he displayed. He is often described as a mentor and jokester.
Ron loved the game of golf. He enjoyed sharing his skill in the game and teaching others the love of the sport. He was proud of his Corvette and took every opportunity he could to show it off. He always had a story or joke to share. He loved his family above all.
Ron’s work ethic and desire to protect and provide for his family were always a priority. He was a simple man with old-school fundamentals. He guided his daughters Mandy Bayne and Beth Powell to always come out stronger on the other side. To not fall victim to your circumstances, always show grace and kindness while standing up for yourself and believe in yourself. To take responsibility for your actions and learn from your mistakes not wallow in self-pity. His motto was “You are only a victim if you make yourself one!”
Ron was exceptionally proud of his three grandchildren: Cameron Storms, Cody and Raegan Powell. He was always singing opera with the grandkids during their younger days, which was allowing them to scream and not get in trouble with Grammy. He loved music and dancing and cutting up. Early every morning you could always hear him whistling a tune. You always felt safe in his arms while getting one of his big bear hugs where he just wouldn’t let go. He loved big but was also tough and held you accountable.
Ron had a special relationship with his son-in-law, Cory Powell. Cory was the son he never had and he let everyone know he was his boy. During his fight against end-stage renal disease his family was by his side every day helping him navigate and fight his long battle. He took comfort in knowing he could trust that no matter what they would be by his side and never allow him to suffer or not be heard. He was loved and cherished by all dearly. He left a huge impact on all that knew him and he will be forever missed.
Military Honors Ceremony planned for 3:00 PM Friday, September 16, 2022 at MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Dr,, Anderson, SC 29621. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, www.shrinerschildrens.org.
