Obituary for Roseann Marie May

Roseann "Rose" May, 73, of Gaffney, SC, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 24, 2021. She was born in Chicago, IL to the late Marshall and Rosemary (Kranzburg) Sherman.

Rose was preceded in death by her nephew, Ronald McFarlane. She is survived by her husband, Stephen May; daughters: Karen Plioplys, Jennifer Jackson (Matt), Elaina Hodges (David); four-legged children: Dewey, Trixie, and Harley; grandchildren: Brandi, Devan, Felicia, Andrew, Adam, Ashley, James, Jacob, Mollie, Ashley, Ryan, and David "DJ" Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: BarbaraVanhoff (Michael), Carole Sherman (Michael Collins), and Linda Rossio (Joseph); brothers, Marshall Sherman (Shirley) and Martin Sherman (Susan); several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Carl Hall.

To know Rose was to love her. With a smile that brought sunshine wherever she was, Rose had a caring and loving heart along with a maternal, nurturing nature. Her love for her husband of 33 years, her three daughters, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could be heard in her endless stories she told about all of them. She loved to give everyone nicknames. She and her husband both retired from Fox Metro in Aurora, IL, which was just the start of her many adventures. She had a passion for genealogy. While visiting Greenville, SC, the birthplace of her daddy, they fell in love with the area. This brought them to eventually reside in Gaffney, SC. In her life they had a kennel where they bred and showed dogs at dog shows. Her love for gardening led her to becoming a Master Gardner. If you did not see her in her garden, you could find her riding free on the back of their Harley through the mountains or wherever the day would lead them. She belonged to many Harley Owner Groups along the way. She was a beloved travel companion. Her adventures with her husband took her from coast to coast and from Canada to Key West, also on a trip to Germany. She loved going on cruises with friends and family. She was a woman with a huge selfless heart that showed in all that she did. Even throughout her long battle with cancer she never wavered, always being strong and never giving up. She will be deeply missed by so many that she touched along the way. Her friends will always remember her for her smart witty comebacks and most of all her infectious smile and unconditional love for all.
