Obituary for Sally Ann Surver

Sally Ann Surver, 85, of La France, SC passed suddenly at home of natural causes on Wednesday, June 20.

Sally was born in Altoona, PA on 3/18/1937 and attended the Altoona Area High School. She attended Pennsylvania State University with a major in Music Education, then transferred to the Philadelphia New School of Music where she studied Viola, Harmony and Theory. A talented violist, Sally played in the Philadelphia Orchestra.

After her studies, Sally worked as an Executive Secretary and then as a Legal Secretary and Court Transcriber. She later moved to Santa Barbara, CA, continuing her work as a Legal Secretary and then to the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI. While there, Sally was a Research Assistant, Fiscal Clerk and Executive Secretary.

In 1980, she moved to La France, SC and began a position at Clemson University where she provided administrative support for the Clemson University Electric Power Association.

In 1991, she advanced to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, continuing in her role of administrative support for 13 faculty. She was also a Liaison for the Piedmont Section/CU Student Branch of IEEE, PES Student Branch and Computer Society Student Branch.

In 2002, Sally retired and was honored for her 22 years of excellent service at Clemson University.

Sally is survived by her nephew, Andrew Surver (Greenville, SC). She was predeceased by her brother, William “Bill” Surver (Clemson, SC), an Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Clemson University, her nephew, Jeffrey Surver (Greenville, SC) and her parents, William Merle Surver and Helen Surver (Altoona, PA).

A talented musician and lover of music, an avid reader and a beloved and faithful friend, Sally will be remembered for her unique sense of humor and her caring nature. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
