Obituary for Sandra Ashmore

Sandra Sue Hambrick Ashmore finally won the fight against cancer, going home to be with the Lord, on Feb 3, 2021. Born April 10, 1951 in Greenville, SC to George Hambrick, Jr. and Mary Rose Vines Hambrick (both deceased), Sandra touched the lives of many.

Sandra was a loving mother to Rebecca Marie Ashmore Garcia and James David Ashmore, and loving grandmother to Michael Garcia and Jonathan, Dawson, Annelysie, and Haylee Ashmore. She was pre-deceased by sisters Janice Kay and Jonah Gail Hambrick and loving husband of 19 years, James Albert Ashmore, Jr.

Sandra had so much love to give that she spent every ounce of her being sharing with others the love of Jesus Christ and educating future generations both local and abroad. Sandra taught kindergarten for over 15 years in Greenville, SC and she was very active in teaching children’s church, leading youth group, or directing summer programs for years. Her passion for knowledge and education saw no bounds. Sandra was filled with excitement to take classes to learn more about anything from business, computer technology, to Christian Education so she could turn around and tell those around her all about the things she learned. She was so proud of all her students and their achievements.
Sandra loved to cook. If she could not reach you with her words, then she would reach you with her delicious cakes, candies, or gourmet meals. Sandra baked many of a birthday cake for neighbors, friends, or church banquets. Even when she could hardly stand from the pain, she would be in the kitchen trying to perfect her biscuit recipe, baking a cake, or trying out some new recipe she found.

Most of all Sandra loved Christ and was not ashamed to tell everyone about Him. She faithfully read her Bible which was filled with labels, papers, and notes. She was a prayer warrior always praying fervently for her children, grandchildren, friends, family, and others that all would know Christ and that they would grow in relationship with Him. She loved to play piano and sing God’s praises in worship and celebration. Sandra was an active member of Duncan First Baptist Church where she sang in the Celebration Choir. Singing gave her so much joy. Most of all, she prayed that each one of you who do not know Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, those of you who keep searching for purpose and something to fill the void would stop right now and turn to Christ and accept His love, His perfect peace, and His grace.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in me (Jesus Christ). My Father’s house has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas asked, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus answered, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” – John 14:1-4

Sandra requested that you do not mourn but celebrate the eternal life that God gives to all freely by believing in Him. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Sanctuary Church, 302 Parkins Mill Rd., Greenville, SC at 11:00am on Saturday, February 6, 2021. A time for receiving friends will follow the service from 12-1:00pm.
