Obituary for Sylvia Maxene Bishop

Sylvia "Maxene" Bishop, 80, went to be with her God on Friday, February 28, 2020. She was born January 29, 1940 to Alvin Harold & Marie Shockley Bishop. After the death of her mother, Maxene spent her childhood years at Connie Maxwell Children's Home, Greenwood, SC.

After graduating from Lander University and Furman University she was an elementary physical education teacher. In more recent years she enjoyed her neighbors in the Earle Street Community; being a Red Cross children's swimming instructor; and volunteering in the children's department at Fourth Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her brother, Gene Bishop and his wife, Pat as well as several nieces and nephews.

Maxene loved butterflies, birds, puppy dogs, animals, and writing poetry; but her greatest love was working with children. She was a gracious, kind, polite, and giving person who believed she was more blessed than she deserved. She had a very personal relationship with her heavenly Father whom she reverently referred as "My God."

"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart... and love your neighbor as yourself."

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 2 pm at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E. Washington Street, Greenville, SC. Family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to; Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.
