Obituary

Obituary for Wanda Mary Souza

Wanda is survived by her 7 children: Debby, Becky, Marty, Sam, Tabby, Jody, and Andy, who are scattered through the US and Canada. She also had 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children, all of whom she adored.

Wanda got married to George when she was 18 years old and a senior in high school, just before he reported for duty in the Army. They were married for 67 years!

Wanda along with her family, enjoyed hosting missionaries, evangelists, and other people in her home. Once they retired and moved to South Carolina she and her husband enjoyed planning activitiesWanda Mary Wild was born on January 13, 1935 at home in her grandmother’s bed in Jacksonville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelene Wild, granddaughter Rachel, and her husband, George.

Wanda only had one baby brother, fondly known as Bob or Bobby, who was 11 years younger than she was. The two of them had a great relationship and never fought or argued their entire life. Wanda said she had waited so long to have a sibling that she just wanted to enjoy him. When Bob was a toddler, Wanda would put him in the basket on her bicycle and ride him around town. She never once dumped him out!!

Wanda along with her family, enjoyed hosting missionaries, evangelists, and other people in her home. Once they retired and moved to South Carolina she and her husband enjoyed planning activities for the senior group at church. She always made plenty of food in case extra people came home for Sunday dinner. Wanda frequently went with her husband to make home and hospital visits.

Some phrases used to describe her are:
Sweet lady
Sacrificial giver
Stubborn
Faithful wife and mother
Some things she is known for are:
Dressed up whenever she left the house, whether going to church, grocery store, or the doctor’s office
Did not give unsolicited advice
Immediately welcomed her children’s spouses in as part of the family
Sewing clothes for herself and 7 children, including leisure suits and ties for the boys, and matching dresses for the girls.
Crocheting afghans for her kids and grandkids
Making eclair cake and scotch-a-roos
Watching Facebook or Marco Polo videos of the great-grandchildren and their antics

After the grandchildren came along, Wanda was known to keep snack baskets, candy dishes, and sodas in the fridge. The grand kids loved taking a drink and snack with them when they left her house.

Mom LOVED hearing and retelling stories about the grandkids and great-grandkids and shared them with EVERYONE who stopped to visit or called her on the phone.

Special memories of Mom/Grandma:
Reading Christian fiction books
Watching Lawrence Welk, any Audie Murphy movie, game shows and old westerns
Completing word search puzzles
Feeding grandkids on Sunday nights during their college years
Going to family reunions
Her face lighting up when great-grandkids came to visit
Watching humming birds drink at the feeder
Grandkids getting to play in the woods at her house

Wanda did not fear death, she welcomed it. She knew Jesus as her Savior and had confidence that she would spend eternity in HEAVEN. She wants all of you to have that same confidence about where you will spend eternity. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Grandma’s favorite song - Overshadowed by H.A. Ironside and George S. Shuler – she liked this song because of the message in the song, and the hope we have in Jesus. . . .

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Grace Baptist Church, 8841 Augusta Rd., Pelzer, SC 29669.
