Obituary for Wesley "Knox" Williams

Wesley Knox Williams, 89, died October 3, 2021 at his home in Greenville SC. He was born November 29, 1931 in Lubbock Texas, the son of Earl A. Williams and Voncile Holgate Williams. Knox served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and after the war, married his college sweetheart, Patricia Bernice Miller. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in August. He graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1957 after which they moved to Lubbock, Texas where he began a career in education. He became the speech/drama teacher at Lubbock High School, quickly moving to Activities Director, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal and finally became the esteemed Principal. During that journey he received his master’s degree at Texas Tech University. His life-long career was dedicated to the students of Lubbock High School. Upon retirement, he and his beloved wife Pat settled in the Texas Hill Country to enjoy a well-earned lakeside lifestyle. In 1999 they moved to Lake Keowee, SC to be near their children and grandchildren.
Knox always enjoyed his workshop and fishing boat, as well as his tennis and bowling leagues. He shared many hours with his wife, children and grandchildren creating memories on the nearby lakes and tennis courts. He was an active member of the Presbyterian church, and spent his life serving as a Deacon, Elder, teacher and the director of performing groups for the congregation. He sang in the choir and was a masterful speaker. Knox was a man of exemplary character and an excellent role model for not only his children, but for the thousands of students he influenced over the years. He was a true gentleman… soft spoken and sincere.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brentley Knox Williams. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bernice Williams of Greenville, SC; daughter, Rhonda Williams Dunlap and husband John, of Greer, SC; son, Hugh Kivett Williams and wife Susie, of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Joshua Knox Pritchard, Madison Elizabeth Williams and Miles Barber Williams; brothers Monte Williams, of San Antonio, Texas; and Lynn Simmons, of San Angelo, Texas; three nieces and one nephew.
