Obituary for William Franklin Phillips

William Franklin Phillips, 99 of Summerville, SC.

Our Dad/Pop/Grandad/Bink has moved to heaven. We always told him he would make it to 100. Well, he was working on his 100th year.

His was a life well lived. He was the quentessential southern gentleman. He loved his family. When he was in his 70’s, he was the exclusive caregiver for his wife, Tene, for eight years when she could do nothing for herself. He was never grumpy or fussy with her. Up until quite recently, he kept a calendar of family birthdays, so he could remember to call everyone on their special day, including nieces and nephews from far and near. He helped everyone he thought needed something.

Frank loved babies but had a special spot for little girls because of the twin daughters he and Tene had. His “one and only” granddaughter, Xandra, has held that place since she was born. More recently, a new great granddaughter has taken her spot. He was able to spend the month of August with his Alabama family and had the opportunity to spend most days with baby Cora.

Dad loved dessert, especially peach pie, banana pudding, and anything chocolate. Up until close to the end, he almost always had a “little room” for something sweet.

We will celebrate the life of our Dad on Friday, February 14, at Riverland Church Office, 402-D North Main Street, Summerville, SC (behind Summerville Visitor Center). Drop in anytime between 4 and 6 PM. Graveside services will be Saturday, February 15 at 3 PM, at Graceland West Cemetery,4814 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

The world was a better place with our Dad in it. It’s a little hard to imagine it without him. But we do not grieve as those who are without hope. We will see him again.
