Obituary for Winona Lee Shaw

Winona L. Shaw, 91, of Mauldin, SC, went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 15, 2020. She was born in Ellsworth, Kansas to the late Helen Cox and William J. Roux.

A consummate caregiver to friends and children, Winona also volunteered at her church, where she worked as secretary, by teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choir. She fostered infants for the LA Dept of Adoptions for four years. Winona had a deep love for canine companions, her "Little Angels," and for many years she bred, raised, and showed Pugs and Brussels Griffons. A season ticket-holder, Winona was a huge Houston Astros Fan, who also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She relocated from Houston, TX to Mauldin, SC in 2014. She took great pride in her caregiving nature, and her true passion was her family.

Winona was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Gene L. Shaw; and sister, Norma Roux Russell. She is survived by her daughters, Jeannine R. Shook (Rick) of Mauldin, SC, and Janell Niemeyer (Kevin) of Spring, TX; son, William M. Shaw of Scappoose, OR; grandchildren, Jason M. and Justin R. Shook (Darleen); great-grandchildren, Katherine Marie and Emerson Grey Shook; former son-in-law, Mark Copas; special friends, John and Linda Toungate of Houston, TX, and Robin Schmidt of Atlanta, GA; and many additional loved ones.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2020 at Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Rd., Greenville, SC 29607.
